Onyx Steel and Mining (OSM) is an OEM of Ground Support products for the mining industry. Our facility is in Johannesburg, South Africa, conveniently located to major transport hubs for regional and international transport.

Our manufactured product range includes Split Sets, also known as Friction Anchors and accompanying washers are supplied in all standard sizes. Our state-of-the-art tube mills are equipped to 24-set stands, and we can produce a high volume of split sets on a daily basis.

LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

OSM understand the significance of logistics and the important role it plays in the supply chain for mining companies. We have extensive knowledge of local & international customs and regulations to ensure our customers receive their goods on time. We have dedicated expeditors who will track your order from door to door and keep them updated every step of the way.

OSM staff are trained to the highest level to assist and advise our customers on all technical aspects of international movement of cargo. Freight forwarding is document driven and our dedicated staff will control the flow of documentation from shipping and Air lines to agents and customers to ensure that the customer never has to worry about the movement of their cargo. Once a customer places an order, OSM will take care of the rest for absolute peace of mind.

OSM Customers can rely on our export packing services to ensure their goods arrive intact and undamaged. We will use either wooden crate & box, metal drums and plastic shrink wrapping to protect your goods during transit.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

We are SABS approved and carry the appropriate ISO 9001 Quality Management System certificate.

OSM Split Sets are hot stamped with an identification number and traceable to the whole manufacturing process that includes time/date of production, correct procedure followed, and steel coil used to manufacture the product, as per SABS requirements.

The identification number gives our customers peace of mind that the correct procedures are followed, and total transparency is available in case of failure.

MINING PRODUCTS

Split Sets are used for primary roof support in underground mining throughout the world. The product, also known as friction anchors, is an open seamed tube manufactured from Supraform S420MC steel and is used in conjunction with a face plate/washer. One end is welded with a ring to secure the washer against the rock and the other end is tapered to allow for easy insertation into the pre-drilled hole.

The split set is installed by using a driving tool and is pushed into a hole that is slightly smaller than the split set diameter and uses friction to anchor itself in the hole. Once installed, the split set allows for support along the entire length of the product and will rely on the radial spring force that has been generated through compression of the tube.
